Kuching - Over 600 athletes had attended the official opening ceremony of Sarawak Contingent Camp which was officiated by Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan who is also the state's Chef-de-Mission (CDM) for the 19th Malaysia Games (Sukma XIX) .

Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Sports Corporation, Dr Ong Kong Swee and a number of assistant Chef-de- Mission (ACDM).

In his opening speech, Datuk Snowdan urged Sarawak athletes to focus on achieving the 77 gold medal target in order to bring back this year's Sukma overall championship title.

He also urged them to be highly disciplined while competing at Sukma in Perak and to mount a strong challenge to other contenders when the competitions begin.

Later when he spoke to the media, Datuk Snowdan said over 100 of Sarawak's athletes had already left for Perak including those from Wushu, golf, football, and badminton teams because their respective competitions are starting early.

The minister together with Dr Ong will also go to Perak as early as September 8 to attend the first meeting for all of participating the state contingents CDM which will take place on 9 September in Ipoh.
