Kuching - Sarawak diving squad which is competing in the 19th Malaysia Games (Sukma XIX) in Perak will be represented by young athletes aged between 11 and 16 years old.
Only two experienced divers will represent Sarawak this time and they are Kimberly Bong, 16, and Ellisha Rania, 13. They both had also competed at the previous Sukma 2016 held Kuching and had won the gold medal in the women's synchronized platform.
The youngest state's female diver is Dayang Nursharzyra Bin Awg Nasaruddin who is only 11 years old and for the men's squad is Elvis Priestly ak Climent who is 12 years old.
The other men divers who will be competing are Enrique Maccartney ak Harold (15), Bertrand Rhodict ak Lises (13) and Awang Sharzan Nasrin Bin Awang Nasaruddin (13).
Among the events that Sarawak women jumpers are taking part are the 10m platform, synchronized 10m platform, 1m Springboard and synchronized 3m springboard. The men divers are competing in the 1m springboard, 3m springboard, 10m platform, synchronized 3m spring board and synchronized 10m springboard.
The Assistant Chef-de-Mission (ACDM) for Sarawak diving squad is YB Datuk Henry Jinep who is also Tasik Biru state assemblyman while the squad manager is Marwawi Malike. The chief coach is Rosatimah Muhammad who is assisted by Charlysle Chan Wee Chiek while Wesley Wela is the state's diving centre coach.
The diving competition is taking place at Amanjaya Aquatic Center, Ipoh Perak City Sports Complex from September 17-21.
